09:37 am: Letter to the interweb

Dear [info]automata
Please call me so we can go to lunch.  Give me a day's notice so I can bring the teensy present I have for you.  I am out of town this Friday.  Tomorrow? Tuesday?  We can talk about India and Paris and Mexico.
Love, Pagan

Live Journal friends, if you aren't already live journal friends with [info]moroccomole, you should be.  I keep trying to repost the stuff he's been putting up about Sarah The Gift that Keeps on Giving Palin, but I can't keep up and also I can't embed video.  If embedding is what you call it.  Just friend him, and then go back a few days, and enjoy.
[info]moroccomole , you don't know me, but thanks so much for your tireless muckraking.  Hilarious.

Spotted around Juneau the other day.  I wish it was a better pic, I was trying to be sly.  Sure enough as soon as they spotted me the cigs got hidden.  They were glorious though, acres of suntan and sweet southern accents.

08:37 am: Yay us, I guess...
There's an article about Juneau in the New York Times today.  It's sorta flattering, sorta depressing....

10:41 am: Sorry but today I have to gloat at another's misfortune.  There's a real classy guy around these parts by the name of Michael Shakespeare.  He's been known to post opinion pieces in our local paper with titles such as: "Marriage is Under Attack", in '92 he was convicted of possessing cocaine with intent to deliver, and in general he can be counted on for all-around specialness.

But yesterday, Mr. S., he beat the band.  And amazingly, justice prevailed!  Swiftly!  Hooray!

Juneau Police Dept. Assault Release

Story last updated at 4/28/2008 - 4:58 pm

On 04/28/2008, at approximately 11:45 AM, a 47 year old female Juneau resident was driving on the Fred Meyer access road approaching Egan Drive outbound. The female driver merged from the Fred Meyer access road into the right lane of Egan Drive outbound. A 1996 Ford truck being driven by 50 year old Juneau resident Michael SHAKESPEARE was also traveling outbound on Egan Drive in the right lane.

SHAKESPEARE drove around the female driver by switching to the left lane. He passed the female, merged back into the right lane in front of the female driver, and abruptly brought his truck to a complete stop. While stopped in the lane of travel, SHAKESPEARE exited his vehicle, walked back to the female driver, and punched her in the head through the open driver side window.

At the time of the incident two JPD plain clothed detectives were driving behind the female driver. SHAKESPEARE was placed under arrest for Assault and Reckless Driving. SHAKESPEARE was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

The investigation revealed that alcohol was not present on either driver. The female victim did not require medical attention after being punched.

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

12:43 pm: Honky Tonk Habit, indeed

A Honky Tonk Habit is just what you have if you saw the line-up at the Alaskan last night of Sean Tracey on vocals and harps, Bob Banghart on fiddle, and the inimitable force that is Chris and Lindy Jones on guitar and bass. Unfortunately for you (and me) the aforementioned force lives in Haines and who knows when we'll get our next dose after tonight. That's why I'll be back there this evening, getting thoroughly saturated in acrid smoke once again, listening to the plaintive sounds of Sean singing many of his own songs and Chris warmly doing the same with Sean's harps sweetening the sound.

Last night, the three sets were cohesive. They started out mellow but building, were fully roused and jumpin' in the middle, and descended into a perfect swill of drinking ballads to finish off the night. Classic country songs were sprinkled among the originals (many of which are but classics-to-be), including many of my very favorite old songs like Cry Me a River and If We Make It Through December, plus some big, fun alt country numbers like Five Pound Bass.

If you want to dance, laugh, bust hippies' asses or just cry in your beer, join me tonight for one more step on the road to Honkydom.

02:28 pm: Yay Yay Yay and Hooray
My mother just offered to take me to India in late Jan early Feb.  She's been 3 times, I've never been.  I am so super excited I can hardly stand it.  Except for a layover in Hong Kong on my way to Australia, I've never been to Asia at all, and I've always wanted to go to India.  I am so excited I don't know how I'll finish my work day.  Yay!
